There are basically two ways to handle a chipped or broken tooth: panic, or see us at Premier Dental & Oral Health Group in Lake Ozark right away.
Chipped or broken teeth are a fairly common problem. They are never to be taken lightly, but on the whole, they aren’t that serious and can be treated very effectively with one of several different cosmetic dentistry techniques.
If you get a chipped or broken tooth in an accident of some kind, then you should get in to see us as soon as possible. We provide emergency dental care. But if there is some kind of delay, you can take an over-the-counter pain medication, for the short term. It also helps to apply an ice pack, and rinse out your mouth.
Solutions include:
- Bonding. This is a simple procedure and ideal for smaller, less complicated chipped teeth. A composite material is molded and shaped over the tooth.
- Veneers. Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic shells that are attached to the front of the tooth. Veneers are good for more serious chips, breaks, and cracks.
- Crowns. Dental crowns cover the entire tooth, and are good for really serious breaks.
- Dental implants. In really serious cases, such as a tooth that is broken at or below the gum line, a dental implant may be in order. Whatever remains of the tooth and its root will be extracted and the implant, a titanium post, is inserted in its place. An artificial tooth is fitted to the post.
Don’t ever take a chipped or broken tooth lightly, but remember there are very effective treatments, available from the Premier Dental & Oral Health Group in Lake Ozark. We also offer general dentistry. Schedule your next checkup with us today.
